Update August, 2020.
PBOT has made some corrections to the speed cushions, adding some sealant to smooth out the edges.
At this point, we can say that the community has accomplished 95% of its goals for safety and the corridor bisecting a community of 15,000, with a high proportion of children, seniors and people with disabilities, will be much safer! Hopefully, no more of the serious injury accidents and deaths we have seen over the past few years, prior to the changes.
That will, indeed, be success!! A community working together can accomplish much!
Update June, 2020.
After 9 years the Portland Bureau of Transportation finally is putting in place the safety infrastructure to the Fessenden / St Louis corridor between Columbia Way and Lombard St. in St Johns.
However, some of the work has been very shoddy. Members of the original Stakeholder Committee which worked with PBOT to create the plan for the changes have written a report documenting the issues and demanding corrections:
